Meatballs with brown sauce and potatoes, homemade fish gratin, and “komle” (potato dumplings) with salted meat, sausage, and melted butter: In the jungle of new eating habits and choices, Norwegian traditional food has almost disappeared from the menu. “Luckily, Lura Turistheim still exists,” our guests say. Some of them have been eating “komle” every Thursday since 1949. Same table, same time. Other guests are so new that they get fish gratin spoon-fed on their parents’ laps. What they all have in common is that they want the taste of real homemade food, generous portions, and quick service. Siv knows all about real food. She’s been working at Lura Turistheim since she started as a dishwasher at 13 in 1979. Today, she, along with our other talented chefs, ensures that the “komle” tastes just right every Thursday, that our classic sandwiches are still a hit, and that our beef stew, unchanged since the early seventies, won top marks at the 2019 Gladmat food festival. Processed foods? Not allowed through our doors. White wine with fish or beer and schnapps with “komle”? We have full licenses at all our restaurants. Are you allergic or have special requests for other reasons? Let us know! If it can be done, we’ll do it. Finish your food! They call it sustainability these days. We’ve called it common sense for years: At Lura Turistheim, we use the whole animal. We make roast one day and stew from the leftovers the next. We boil the bones for the world’s best broth, and the blood becomes “blood dumplings” for grateful guests with fond childhood memories. That’s why we don’t have food waste. When we deliver more and more meatballs and “komle” by electric car, it’s not to be modern. It’s because it’s the right thing to do. You’ll always find fish on the menu. Our cauliflower soup is vegetarian, though we just call it cauliflower soup. We buy our ingredients locally.
